Usually plastic is said to be a culprit in causing environmental pollution but that is not always the case and this disadvantage can be easily subsided with so many advantages. Let’s discuss some of the main benefits plastic packaging has one by one.

Light weight

As plastic packaging is extremely lightweight plastic packaging is used in packed goods transportation, due to lower emissions and light weight plastic packaging is not very expensive hence it is the top selling packaged material available in the markets today. A simple example would be a yogurt cup that is sold in the glass pot is not only heavy in weight but is expensive as well, whereas you can get the same amount of equally good quality yogurt in a plastic tub. Transporting yogurt would require less trucks and fuel in plastic packaging than any other type of packaging giving plastic packaging suppliers an edge to make more money from them.

Minimizes food wastage

Many plastic manufacturers put great emphasis on saving leftover food in plastic packaging as according to a survey in UK foods and drinks worth 7.2 million tons which is almost 50% of the total food production goes to waste from homes every year and more than half of it goes to waste just because of leftovers that are deteriorated and could easily be saved and used for later use in plastic packaging as it can increase the durability of the foods life up to 4 to 5 days. Every household bears a loss of almost £480 every year and family with a children bears £680 additional cost.

Energy from waste

Less plastic with more material is one innovation plastic manufacturers have improvised in packaging by introducing unique designs and flairs to it. Saving the amount of plastic used per packaging. Plastic can be recycled 5 to 6 times in the form of packaging after that it is consumed to form energy from waste material

Reusable

Plastic can be reused again and again for more than 4 to 5 times easily not all but some items are reused for even longer periods of time without any problem like storage bins, sealed food containers, and water bottles, in order to conserve raw materials and natural resources and reduces costs to some extent many plastic materials like egg crates and plastic pallets can be used for longer.

Recycle

Plastic can be easily recycled in order to reduce waste and minimize pollution. Concept of plastic recycling was introduced in 1970s and since 1990 80% of U.S has access and knowledge of plastic recycling from the convenience of their home, and even now recycling of used plastic is increasing day by day with increased awareness and methods known. Plastic packaging suppliers have also enhanced their business across the globe due to increased demands in the market.

Bottles are one of the top things that get recycled most commonly but now due to increased awareness about recycling items many communities have now started recycling tubs, lids, trays, containers, and plastic bags after shopping. This just not only saves the extra cost on buying new things but also reduces plastic waste that is the root cause of pollution. There are many waste management companies that collect plastics that are easily reusable and recyclable and create many new products like detergent bottles, containers, fleece jackets, composite lumber, carpeting etc.

Although plastic does not have a very good reputation there are some things where plastic manufacturers are given credit for as it is a great source of saving many items from going bad for example powders, gels, shampoos, creams, and many out of season vegetables and fruits can be easily stored in the freezer in plastic wraps and clings.

All types of plastic is not the same and have different properties in terms of their function like some are safe for food storage, some are flexible, some have a transparent finish while others have opaque, some are heat resistant while others are not. Plastic is being used in all households for centuries and is proved to be the most common item being used till today due to its usability and versatility.
